Philadelphia Area Singer, Promotor Earns NFIB Young Entrepreneur Scholarship

Date: April 27, 2017

Gavin Becker of Gladwyn created successful music marketing business

HARRISBURG (Apr. 27, 2017) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Young Entrepreneur Foundation today announced that Gavin Becker of Gladwyn, Montgomery County, is one of 115 Young Entrepreneur Awards winners from across the country. The scholarship rewards entrepreneurial talents among high school students who own and operate their own small business. Becker and other high school seniors received a $2,000 college scholarship.

“When you look at the success Gavin has had as a musician building up his fan base, holding concerts, and creating a music promotion business, there is no doubt he will succeed in college and beyond,” said Kevin Shivers, executive state director of NFIB Pennsylvania. Shivers donated the scholarship in memory of his late mother, Kathleen V. Shivers.

“My mom was a banker who supported the entrepreneurial dreams of countless small-business owners over her career,” Shivers continued. “It takes not just talent, but the drive to pursue your dream and not give up, no matter how many people turn you down. Even as a high school student, Gavin has already done that.”

Becker is a senior at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr. He plans to attend Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. His website http://gavinbeckerofficial.com/, chronicles his success in the music business.

“I have had the incredible opportunity during the past four years to tour the country playing the role of promoter, manager, songwriter, performer, and merchandiser with solo concerts from Maryland to Massachusetts,” said Becker. Becker leveraged his 300,000 social media followers to complete advertising campaigns for several major companies and to promote his original music to land on the iTunes charts.

Five students were named finalists for NFIB’s top two scholarships: the 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur of the Year and the 2017 NFIB Dan Danner Leadership Award and will be honored at an event in Washington, D.C. on July 27. The top two winners will receive a $15,000 scholarship, and the remaining three finalists will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.
