SALEM, Ore., April 8, 2016—Anthony K. Smith, Oregon state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, issued the following statement on Gov. Kate Brown’s State-of-the-State Speech at the Portland City Club this afternoon.
“We appreciate the governor’s mention and concern for small business, and while some of our state’s economic statistics have improved — as Oregon has battled back from the Great Recession – it’s important to remember that businesses are still struggling with rising health-care costs, new wage and benefit mandates, and an ever increasing regulatory compliance burden that keeps too many entrepreneurs in a survival-mode holding pattern rather than focusing on growth and innovation.”
With 350,000 dues-paying members nationwide, including nearly 7,000 in Oregon, NFIB is the nation’s largest and leading small-business association. More about NFIB, what a small business is, and the power of the small-business vote can be found at this online media kit, Quick Information About Main Street, Oregon, where you’ll find single pages of bullet information on the nine topics contained in it.
