Comment on Gov. Brown’s Speech in Portland, Today

Date: April 08, 2016

SALEM, Ore., April 8, 2016—Anthony K. Smith, Oregon state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, issued the following statement on Gov. Kate Brown’s State-of-the-State Speech at the Portland City Club this afternoon.
We appreciate the governor’s mention and concern for small business, and while some of our state’s economic statistics have improved — as Oregon has battled back from the Great Recession – it’s important to remember that businesses are still struggling with rising health-care costs, new wage and benefit mandates, and an ever increasing regulatory compliance burden that keeps too many entrepreneurs in a survival-mode holding pattern rather than focusing on growth and innovation.
