Gov. Pat McCrory, Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, and Attorney General Roy Cooper were among the speakers at NFIB’s annual Small Business Day at the Capital luncheon, held June 1 at the City Club Raleigh.
Over 100 NFIB members from around the state attended this year’s event to learn more about what’s happening in Raleigh and speak out about the issues affecting their small businesses.
McCrory said the state’s business climate has improved dramatically over the past few years. “We still have a lot of work to do,” he said, but “three weeks ago, it was announced that North Carolina has had the fastest-growing economy in the last three years of any state in the United States of America.”
Cooper warned owners about possible scams targeting small businesses. “One of the things we’re seeing a lot … is the fake invoice scam,” the attorney general said. His office has gotten reports of criminals sending fake invoices or demanding that funds be transferred to their bank accounts immediately.
Forest, meanwhile, encouraged small-business owners to speak to their local legislators about the issues that affect them. “Your voice definitely matters in Raleigh,” he said.
