Member Spotlight: Scott Smith & Sons Fuel & Propane Delivery

Date: January 08, 2018

Brandon Smith, Co-owner of Scott Smith & Sons fuel and propane delivery company, is no stranger to helping people and providing first rate customer service. In fact, Brandon says that the best advice he’s ever received is from his father and business partner who told Brandon, “If you help people get what they want, you will get what you want too.”

Keeping customers’ best interest as a top priority has enabled Scott Smith & Sons to grow and thrive since it started in 1923. Now, in its fourth generation of family ownership, Scott Smith & Sons has mastered many ways of building great customer relationships through the years. Not only is Scott Smith & Sons an employer in the community but the small business also supports many youth sports teams, like the Nichols, Tioga and Owego Little League and Junior Football teams, and community events including arts and cultural festivals.

The business today embraces communicating with customers through its Facebook page, which offers customers safety tips on heating issues like what to do if you smell gas and how to prepare for an emergency. On Scott Smith & Son’s Facebook page, you’ll also find five-star reviews, information about how to access your account and pay for your heating fuel online, pictures of employees on the job, fun photos of antique cars filling up at the pumps and chances to win prizes including grocery store gift certificates and gas cards.

The nearly century old business of Scott Smith & Sons has evolved with the times and has found a way to succeed in New York. But Brandon says that there are ever-growing challenges of being a business owner in New York State including the rising cost of doing business due to insurance costs, regulations and taxes, and that’s why he continues Scott Smith & Sons’ membership in NFIB.

Brandon Smith says he counts on NFIB for information on changes on the horizon and gives a “heads up” on issues that need to be addressed.
