NFIB Launches Radio Ad Supporting Bryant, Reeves and Chaney, Opposing Initiative 42

Date: October 27, 2015

The Mississippi office of the National Federation of Independent Business today launched a statewide radio campaign supporting Phil Bryant for governor, Tate Reeves for lieutenant governor and Mike Chaney for insurance commissioner.

“When we balloted our members about this year’s election, the response came through loud and clear,” said Ron Aldridge, state director of NFIB/Mississippi, the state’s leading small-business association. “Governor Bryant, Lieutenant Governor Reeves and Commissioner Chaney have worked hard for small, family businesses, and they’ve earned a second term.”

The endorsements come from the NFIB/Mississippi SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, the political action committee for NFIB/Mississippi’s membership, comprised solely of NFIB members.

In addition to supporting Bryant, Reeves and Chaney, the ad urges voters to vote “no” on Initiative 42, a proposed constitutional amendment that would take ultimate authority over Mississippi’s public schools away from the Legislature and place it in the hands of a single Chancery Court judge.

When NFIB/Mississippi surveyed its members this month, 92.2 percent of those who responded opposed Initiative 42.

“Our members believe the 174-member, locally-elected Legislature is more likely to respond and be accountable to the needs of the community—not just parents and teachers but also small businesses, which depend on a strong public-school system to help prepare our young people for an increasingly competitive marketplace,” Aldridge said. “Our children’s future and the future of our economy are too important to put in the hands of just one person with no accountability to all the people of Mississippi.”

Here is a transcript of the ad:

NFIB, Mississippi’s voice of small business, supports Phil Bryant for Governor…Tate Reeves, Lieutenant Governor, and Mike Chaney for Insurance Commissioner. They’ve supported Mississippi’s job creators—our small businesses—with more than just sound bites. And they’ll fight to help them grow and keep creating jobs. Bryant. Reeves. Chaney. Three candidates. One strong team for small business.

Taking our schools from the public and giving them to a judge—not the American way and just plain wrong. That’s why the National Federation of Independent Business urges you to protect the voice of every parent, teacher and community by voting NO on Initiative 42. Because if Initiative 42 passes, our hard-earned tax dollars will be spent on court battles instead of in our classrooms.

Make sure you support the legislative candidates who’ll stand up for our small businesses. Go to NFIB.com/MS to learn more about who’s best for small business.

Paid for by The National Federation of Independent Business Mississippi SAFE Trust. Michael Maloney, treasurer.
