Washington, DC (July 30, 2014) – The National
Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), representing roughly 13,000
small business owners in Minnesota, today announced its support for incumbent
Collin Peterson in the 7th Congressional District.
“Collin Peterson has been a strong
advocate for the small business owners in his district and our members deeply
appreciate his integrity,” said Lisa
Goeas, NFIB Vice President for Political and Grassroots. “Most politicians in Washington claim to be
independent leaders, but Collin Peterson is the real deal.”
NFIB is the
country’s leading advocate for small business owners representing hundreds of
thousands of members across the country.
The group endorses incumbents based on their voting records on key
issues identified by its members. Peterson,
a Democrat, so far in the 113th Session has voted with small
business on 85 percent of the issues.
Incumbents who support NFIB’s positions seven out of 10 times are
eligible for endorsement, under the organization’s criteria.
“There are a lot
of Democrats this year claiming to have stood up to the leaders of their party,”
said Goeas. “Most
of them don’t have the voting record to back up their rhetoric. Small business owners in Minnesota’s 7th
District can be confident that Collin Peterson means what he says, and it’s
great to know that there are still people like him in Washington.”
previously earned the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award, reserved for
lawmakers who vote consistently to defend the interests of small business
owners and will receive it once again this year. His endorsement was made by the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s
political action committee. Surveys show
that small business owners are influential in their communities and NFIB
members in Minnesota’s 7th
Congressional District will work hard this year to send Collin Peterson back to Washington.
