10 Ways to Get Involved During the 85th Legislative Session

Date: April 04, 2017

  1. Read the NFIB/Texas bi-weekly Spilman Report, which overviews current legislation filed affecting your business and any action on that legislation.

  2. Be on the lookout for NFIB Action Alerts regarding emergency member action on important legislation.

  3. Attend NFIB/Texas 2017 Small Business Day at the Capitol. STRENGTHEN THE VOICE OF SMALL BUSINESS THROUGH POWER IN NUMBERS! For more information visit www.nfib.com/Texas

  4. Write letters to your local news editor regarding issues that impact and concern you as a small business owner and NFIB member.

  5. Be available for NFIB media requests — share your personal experiences as a small business owner in the state. Let our Communications Director Sarah Tober know that you are willing to speak to media at 512.476.9847 or email her [email protected].

  6. Be willing to join NFIB staff at the Capitol to attend committee hearings on small business issues. Personal testimonials are crucial in getting the vote of a legislator.

  7. Be a Grassroots Key Contact for NFIB. Let NFIB know if you have a special relationship with a legislator so you can be called upon to reach out to them for an urgent vote.

  8. Do not be afraid to call or email your legislator and let them know who you are. You are their constituent, you elect them, and you should call on them.

  9. Attend NFIB legislative meetings in your area.

  10. Help grow the NFIB small business voice by referring other small business owners to NFIB and encouraging them to be a part of the family.
