PAID LEAVE PASSAGE LEAVES SMALL BUSINESS COMMUNITY WITH INCREASED UNCERTAINTY

Date: June 29, 2017

PROVIDENCE (June 28, 2017): In response to this evening’s news that the Senate has passed mandatory paid sick leave in the state of Rhode Island, the following statement may be attributed to Chris Carlozzi, Rhode Island State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business:

The small business community is naturally disappointed that the Senate feels the need to intervene in the day-to-day operation of small businesses. Obviously, our hope is that the bill will go no further, however, just knowing that bad for business policies are always a few simple votes away creates tremendous uncertainty amongst our members.

It’s a shame that lawmakers cannot put their energy into improving Rhode Island’s economic climate by increasing small business’ ability to create jobs to compete with neighboring states.
