Expanded Family and Medical Leave in Wisconsin?

Expanded Family and Medical Leave in Wisconsin?

A new state proposal aimed at expanding Wisconsin’s Family and Medical Leave Act would be bad news for small business owners, according to NFIB/Wisconsin State Director Bill G. Smith.

The proposed bill would give workers access to more paid leave, and expand the kind of companies who must comply with the law, from 50 full-time workers down to 25, affecting many more NFIB-member businesses. The bill would set up a trust fund under the Department of Workforce Development.

“Generally, the small business community does not support government mandating benefits,” Smith told Wisconsin Public Radio. “It’s not because they are less compassionate with their employees. It’s because what small business owners need in their relationship with their workers is flexibility.”
