CONCORD (March 1, 2017): In response to the Senate’s refusal to pass Bill 83, a bill to reinstate and gradually increase the state minimum wage, the following statement may be attributed to Bruce Berke, New Hampshire State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB):
We applaud the Senate for their willingness to put political expediency aside and do what was in the best interest of both employers and employees in the state of New Hampshire. Passing this bill would have sent a message to our small business community that running the day to day operations of their businesses should be left to lawmakers. By defeating the measure, the Senate sent a clear message to our job creators that they have confidence in employers naturally offering higher wages to entice new employees.
The small business community provides the vast majority of jobs in New Hampshire, and we sincerely appreciate today’s action. Our members look forward to continuing to do business in a state that values their contribution to the economy.
