Speaking at the NFIB Kansas Small Business Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Gov. Sam Brownback cut to the chase:
“I don’t want to keep you long because I want you getting out in the hallways and talking with members (of the Legislature) here about ‘Don’t raise my taxes.'”
“The House just voted to raise income-tax rates on everybody, retroactively, and I don’t know of another state in America that’s raising income tax rates.”
If the Legislature votes to raise the state income tax, “I won’t sign that,” he said. “That’s going against the trend of everywhere in the country if not in the world. I don’t know why we would take a different route.”
NFIB members also heard from Kansas House Speaker Ron Ryckman and met with Senate President Susan Wagle in the Senate chamber.
