The Kansas office of the National Federation of Independent Business, the state’s leading small-business association, has presented its coveted Guardian of Small Business Award to state Rep. Gene Suellentrop.
The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. The NFIB Kansas Leadership Council, an advisory board, comprised of NFIB members, voted to present the award to Suellentrop for supporting small-business issues in this year’s session of the Legislature.
Dan Murray, state director of NFIB, said, “Gene Suellentrop has a 100 percent lifetime voting record with NFIB, and he went to bat for our members in this year’s legislative session.
“As vice chair of the House Tax Committee, he helped defeat numerous bills that would have raised taxes on small businesses,” Murray said. “As a member of the House Commerce, Labor and Economic Development Committee, he fought for unemployment and workers’ comp reforms that would ease the financial burden on small businesses, and he opposed onerous predictive scheduling rules that would have made it harder for employers to operate and respond to worker absences.
“Kansans are fortunate to have leaders like Gene Suellentrop fighting for them in the Legislature,” Murray said. “On behalf of all small businesses in Kansas, NFIB wants to thank Representative Suellentrop for everything’s he done on behalf of our state’s entrepreneurs.”
