Washington, DC (August 19, 2014) – The nation’s leading small
business advocacy group with more than 10,000 members in Iowa today endorsed
State Senator Joni Ernst in what may be the hottest US Senate race in the
country.

“Joni
has been fighter all of her life and in the Legislature she’s been one of the
most dependable supporters of small business,” said NFIB Iowa State Director Kristin Failor.  “Iowa small businesses badly need an advocate
in Washington and our members are very excited by her candidacy.”

Ernst,
a state senator and 20-year Army commander, grew up in a small business
family.  She worked construction jobs
with her father and helped run the family farm.
She brings a common sensibility to the important issues affecting small
business, said Failor, and that’s in very short supply in Washington.

“She
understands the key issues from a small business perspective and that’s very
important to our members,” she said.
“Small business owners view taxes, health care and regulations with a
very practical eye and that’s what we need in the US Senate.”

Ernst
is locked in a very tight race with Rep. Bruce Braley, a trial lawyer and
prodigious fundraiser.  Observers had
expected him to walk easily into the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Tom
Harkin.  But he’s had a rough campaign so
far marked by embarrassing missteps and Ernst has been coming on strong.

“Representative
Braley has voted against the NFIB position on every key issue in this Congress
and despite his claims he’s never been a reliable supporter of small business,”
said NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas.  “If you understand small business then you
understand Iowa’s economy.  With all due
respect to the Congressman his voting record proves clearly that he doesn’t
understand small business.”

Ernst’s
endorsement today comes from the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political
action committee.  Small business owners
vote in high percentages and they are influential in their communities.  NFIB members in Iowa will work hard this year
to send Joni Ernst to the US Senate.
