Iowa Workers' Compensation rates to Decrease in 2018 Thanks to Legislative Reforms

Date: September 06, 2017

A rate filing was submitted on Aug. 9 that would decrease workers’ compensation premiums by an average of 8.7 percent beginning in January of 2018.  This new decrease would be in addition to a reduction of 3.9 percent which took place on July 1st due to NFIB’s supported legislation that was signed into law earlier this year (HF 518).

On Aug. 30, 2017, the Iowa Insurance Division made it official and approved the rate filing to decrease workers’ compensation premiums by 8.7%. The reduction is for voluntary and assigned risks beginning on Jan. 1, 2018, for new and renewal policies.
