Illinois Senate leaders from both parties headed back to the bargaining table this week to hammer out a state budget, but both sides remained apart on key issues including workers’ comp reform and spending cuts. With financial rating agencies warning that Illinois will hit junk-bond status by June if this is not resolved, pressure continues to mount.
The Illinois House, meanwhile, seems to be waiting on a Senate solution. The House adjourned Thursday.
NFIB is following the budget talks closely. On behalf of our members, we’re pushing for:
- A balanced budget that Gov. Bruce Rauner will agree to sign.
- Reforms that enable businesses to grow, create jobs, and lift our economy.
- No statewide minimum wage increase or new taxes that would make it harder for small businesses to expand and add jobs.
