Bill Paves the Way for More Lawsuits

Date: April 06, 2017

Small businesses in Florida are facing yet another blow from trial attorneys. Senate Bill 334 on prejudgement interest passed its final committee last week and was assigned for a full floor vote.

SB334 by Senator Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) is bad news for businesses in Florida. It will increase the cost of personal injury lawsuits by allowing interest to start accumulating from the day of the cause of action until a judgement is determined, or until the case is settled. This bad policy will force more companies to settle in an effort to avoid paying interest for ongoing litigation, despite the merit of the claim.

NFIB has been fighting this bill every step of the way, and we plan to bring the fight right to the Senate Floor. Watch your inbox for more.
