What did Florida's US Senate candidates say about small business in the debate?

Rubio and Murphy Clash on Obamacare in US Senate Debate.

Florida’s U.S. Senate debate focused little on issues that matter to small business owners except for a brief exchange on the controversial Affordable Care Act.

Rep. Patrick Murphy, a Democrat who is challenging Senator Marco Rubio, called the law “a huge step forward for our country.

“But it’s not perfect,” he said. “And there are many things we have to do to improve it, and that’s exactly what I’ve spent my time in Congress trying to do.”

Rubio, whom NFIB endorsed in July, said he was proud of his opposition to the law and his efforts to dismantle it.

“To say that Obamacare has some problems is the equivalent to saying that the Titanic had some problems,” Rubio said. “It has incredible problems. Number one: It’s running up our debt. Number two: people are losing their coverage. In about three weeks, about half a million Floridians are going to lose their coverage again. It’s collapsing under its own weight because it doesn’t work.”

When NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political action committee, endorsed Rubio in July, he emphasized then that repealing and replacing Obamacare would be one of his top priorities.

“The NFIB has been a strong, consistent voice for small business, and I am proud to receive their endorsement,” said Rubio. “Small businesses are the backbone of our Florida communities, and big government is only getting in their way of achieving success. I look forward to continuing to work with the NFIB on behalf of small business to ease regulatory reforms and replace the disaster that is Obamacare.”
