Nine Nevada Lawmakers Endorsed for Re-Election

Date: June 08, 2016 Last Edit: June 09, 2016

CARSON CTY, Nev., June 8, 2016—The state’s leading small-business association today announced its backing of one state senator and eight state assembly members seeking re-election to their seats in the Nevada Legislature.

“This year’s election is the most volatile in memory, and we felt it important for small business to cut through the noise with our pre-primary endorsements,” said Randi Thompson, Nevada state director for the National Federation of Independent Business. “Small businesses will never have the financial resources to compete with bigger entities in the amount of political advertising they can afford, but we have a respect in the community few groups can match, and it’s vital we let people know just who are our friends in the Legislature.  We measure our friends by their actions, not their words.”

The endorsements for re-election for incumbents were made by NFIB/Nevada SAFE Trust (Save America’s Free Enterprise), the political action arm of NFIB/Nevada, and were based on their votes on issues vital for small-business survival taken during the last session of the Nevada Legislature. Further endorsements for candidates challenging incumbents or running for open seats will be forthcoming. Today’s first round of endorsements were for:

  • Sen. Pete Goicoechea (District 19), 86-percent, pro-small-business voting record
  • Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton (Dist. 10), 75 percent
  • Assemblyman Chris Edwards (Dist. 19), 100 percent
  • Assemblywoman Jill Dickman (Dist. 31), 100 percent
  • Assemblyman Ira Hansen (Dist. 32), 75 percent
  • Assemblyman John Ellison (Dist. 33), 100 percent
  • Assemblyman Brent Jones (Dist. 35), 100 percent
  • Assemblywoman Robin Titus (Dist. 38), 100 percent
  • Assemblyman Jim Wheeler (Dist. 39), 100 percent

Also earning high pro-small-business voting tallies were Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman (88 percent), who has been endorsed by NFIB/Nevada SAFE Trust for her District 6 senate race, and Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, (88 percent), who is running for Congress. NFIB has made no official endorsement in that congressional race for the moment.
