SMALL BUSINESS ENDORSES ERICKSON IN PRIMARY

St. Paul (July 28, 2016) – Minnesota SAFE Trust announced their endorsements today in several key races. The political action committee formed by Minnesota’s most influential small business group, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), enthusiastically endorsed Representative Sondra Erickson today in her primary race.

“Representative Erickson has been a good friend to the small business community and we sincerely appreciate all of the important votes she has cast over the years. Enacting legislation beneficial for small businesses and improving our state’s business climate are clearly among her priorities,” said Minnesota NFIB State Director Mike Hickey. “Rep. Erickson understands that a strong small business community is imperative to a strong economy state wide and we appreciate all of her efforts to help make staying in business in Minnesota a reality.”

Hickey also noted that Rep. Erickson has a 100% voting record and in addition to today’s endorsement, she will be awarded NFIB’s coveted Guardian of Small Business award as well.

As mentioned, Rep. Erickson voted to support the small business community many times, some of her most recent votes included:

-Voted to conform Minnesota’s estate tax exemption to that of the federal level.

–-Voted to significantly reduce business property taxes by eliminating the state general portion of the business property tax.  This would give companies a 20-30% reduction on a large fixed cost and make us instantly competitive on this issue.

–-Supported legislation for employers that provided a one-time $258 million dollar unemployment insurance tax credit that will reduce taxes for most businesses by 27-29%

–-Voted to hold the line on state spending which gave Minnesota the third smallest state budget increase in the last 50 years.

“Rep. Erickson is a very good friend to the small business community and we urge not only business owners, but all of her constituents in district 15A to take the time to vote for her in the August 9th primary,” concluded Hickey.

Please note that Erickson’s endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust (SAFE), the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding key small-business issues including health care, taxes, and labor and regulatory issues.
