TTF Impasse Is Taking Its Toll on New Jersey

The impasse over a plan to replenish
the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund has been going on more than two
months, and it has already had severe consequences.

First, following Gov. Chris
Christie’s declaration of a state of emergency and the shut-down of most
state-funded transportation work, New Jersey suffered a loss of approximately
3,200 construction jobs in the month of July.

Then, in mid-August, Gov. Christie
issued an executive order directing the state treasurer to make money from the
general fund available for transportation projects that are essential for the
protection of the health, safety, and welfare of New Jerseyans or that are
required to ensure receipt of federal funding. Gov. Christie announced that
this situation would continue until the Legislature passes an acceptable TTF
funding bill.

NFIB/NJ remains strongly opposed to
the astronomical 23-cent gas tax hike currently on the table.
