SMALL BUSINESS SEES JOBS INITIATIVE AS A GREAT WAY TO KICK OFF 2017

ANNAPOLIS (January 5, 2017): In response to today’s
announcement by Governor Hogan regarding his Jobs Initiatives Program, the
following statement may be attributed to National Federation of Independent
Business (NFIB) Maryland state director, Mike O’Halloran:

The Maryland small business community applauds Governor
Hogan’s focus on creating additional jobs for our state in the areas that need
it most. A complete
elimination of all state taxes for ten
years for new manufacturing employers as well as tax incentives for existing
businesses will go a long way to assist these blighted areas.

Additionally, today’s focus on
multiple ways to improve our workforce will go a long way to ensuring that
Maryland small business owners are able to hire employees with the proper skill
set and training. The less time that a small business owner has to spend
training a new employee, the more likely he or she is to hire additional
people.

Governor Hogan starts 2017 on a
positive note, and we look forward to working with him and the legislature this
year on the issues that most concern our members.
