Oregon may only have 17 of the top small cities to start a small business, but two of those cities are packed with startups. The WalletHub, “2017’s Best & Worst Small Cities to Start a Business” survey looked at 1,261 cities around the country with a population between 25,000 and 100,000. Each city was then ranked on three major levels: business environment, access to resources, and business costs.
Of the cities on the list, Aloha comes in at number 71, while Redmond is slightly behind it at 81st. Both cities scored well on the three categories measured, business environment, access to resources, and business costs. Aloha scored 12th overall for business environment, which is made up of several sub-categories: average length of work week, average growth in number of small businesses, number of startups per capita, average revenue per business, average growth of business revenues, and industry variety. Bend (267 overall) and Redmond are also tied for first for cities with the most startups per capita. Being at the top of that list is a nine times difference than those cities with the least startups.
