When it comes to the health of its manufacturing and logistics industry, Indiana still makes the grade.
According to a new report from Conexus Indiana, The 2017 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card, the state scored A’s in both sectors in 2017, unchanged from its 2016 marks. The report evaluated the 50 states on nine different categories, from human capital to productivity and innovation.
In other good news for small businesses, the state’s tax climate also scored A’s again.
The area where the state most needs to improve is human capital. “We’re stuck at average,” Michael Hicks, professor of economics and director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University, told the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Manufacturing accounts for roughly 30 percent of Indiana’s gross product and employs 526,000.
