Gov. Hogan Adopts More Regulatory Reforms

Date: December 13, 2016

187 commission recommendations will modernize and streamline state regulations.

Earlier this month, Gov. Larry Hogan’s Regulatory Reform Commission released their second report, offering up nearly 200 recommendations for making the state government more efficient, reported the Associated Press.

Workgroups under the commission have been evaluating state regulations with a lens of four different criteria. Each regulation was examined to determine whether it could be modernized, streamlined or clarified, stripped of outdated references, or edited to conform with other state or federal requirements. Hogan will move forward with all 187 recommendations.

Hogan created the commission in 2015 with a goal of improving Maryland’s business friendliness. The group’s first report, released in December 2015, recommended a slew of changes that streamlined regulations but also overhauled the mindset and focus of regulators and state employees to one of customer service to businesses and citizens.
