SMALL BUSINESS UNCERTAINTY CONTINUES THANKS TO INEFFECTIVE LEGISLATORS

Date: June 29, 2017

In response to today’s news that legislators have failed to come to a budget agreement, the following statement may be attributed to National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Connecticut State Director, Andrew Markowski:

The only thing certain for small business owners at this point is that the fiscal uncertainty in Connecticut will continue for at least the next several weeks.  The budget deficits and problems have been the top concern of the business community for months now, and here we are again, starting the new fiscal year with no budget in place.  Worse yet, today we hear about a proposal that would increase the sales tax rate.  This would only cost customers of small businesses more and further decimate what is already a fragile economy.   As the Governor has stated from the beginning, and small business owners agree, the state budget cannot be a revenue driven discussion. Legislators need to start listening and stop procrastinating making the difficult decisions that are necessary now, more so than ever.
