SMALL BUSINESS REJECTS PANELS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPLORES MALLOY TO DO THE SAME

“Yet again the
solutions that seem to come out of the Capitol revolve around an insatiable
appetite for spending in spite of the fact that our state economy is struggling
and we are losing businesses to environments with fewer taxes and regulations.
Lockbox or not, the panel’s recommendations constitute a tax increase on small
business owners and their employees, and we all know that raising taxes again
will be detrimental to our economy.

The fact that
they would even float the idea of a hike in the gas tax and sales tax when we
are already uncompetitive with surrounding states in those regards just shows
how bad things have gotten among policymakers in Hartford.  And the idea
of a new Vehicle Miles Traveled fee program is also extremely concerning to
small business owners.  Those in government seem to refuse to learn from
their previous mistakes and back off from the notion that tax increases are the
solution to any of our states problems.

Small businesses
account for the vast majority of jobs in Connecticut and cannot, under any
circumstances, afford to pay more to keep their vehicles moving and their shops
operating.  Governor Malloy needs to send this panel back to the drawing
board and demand solutions that do not include punishing the hard working
people of Connecticut.”
