House Minority Leader Brian Del Grosso on June 20 announced that NFIB-member Cindy Sovine-Miller would be his appointment to a new commission the Legislature created this year to look at the ever-rising costs of health care.
According to Senate Bill 187, which created the new Colorado Commission on Affordable Health Care, “improving the affordability of health care involves a comprehensive examination and recommendations regarding the major fundamental drivers of health care cost.”
The legislation, signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper, allocates $500,000 to establish the commission of 12 voting members to be appointed by him and the Democratic and Republican leadership of the State House and Senate, and five non-voting members from state agencies.
“I first want to thank Representative Del Grosso for soliciting NFIB’s suggestion on a good small-business representative for this new commission,” said NFIB/Colorado State Director Tony Gagliardi, “and then I’d like to thank Cindy for agreeing to take some time away from her busy enterprise to help find some badly needed answers to a question that continues to trouble every enterprise in Colorado.”
Sovine-Miller is owner of Sovine-Miller consulting, a business advocacy enterprise based in Denver.
“We will never get a rein on health care, until we get a rein on costs,” added Gagliardi. “And we will never get a rein on costs until we find out why enormous sums of money are needed for everything from the latest technology to the $12 aspirin, and stupidly dismissing it to just greed or profits fails to get at real root causes that could include market or government inefficiencies and duplications. Having worked with Cindy Sovine-Miller, I can attest to her qualities of intelligence and perseverance that make her an excellent choice for this commission.”
