By now you have seen NFIB/Texas’ legislative Voting Record for the 84th Legislature and have taken the time to see the results for your state representative and state senator. During the last session we had a tremendous amount of success in killing bad bills and passing good ones like the 25 percent cut to the state franchise tax. What is most impressive is the number of elected officials who voted with small business 100 percent of the time. 86 of the 181 members of the Texas House of Representatives and Senate voted with NFIB/Texas on the key issues that we advocated for or against. That’s quite a testament to the power of the Texas small business community when united under the NFIB banner. So, if you happen to be represented by one of the 86 “100 percenters” or if you are represented by someone scoring an 80 percent or higher, please give them a call or send them a note of thanks for recognizing the importance of small business in Texas.
In this issue you will find our member of the month, the list of 100 percent legislators, and details on our recent presentation of the NFIB Guardian of Small Business award to House Speaker Joe Straus of San Antonio. Also, don’t miss our updates on national news like the new overtime rules or NFIB fighting the EPA on a regulatory land-grab. Every day we are here for small business on a state and national level. Don’t hesitate to contact our office with questions. Small business is big together.
Sincerely,
Will Newton
NFIB/Texas Executive Director
