Donald Trump’s “New York values” came in handy during the state’s April 19 primary.
The Republican front-runner trounced Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich in his home state, garnering 60 percent of the vote and claiming an overwhelming majority of the delegates at stake.

Trump came away with 89 delegates, Kasich added three to his total, and Cruz came away with nothing.
Now, Trump leads Cruz 844 delegates to 543, according to The New York Times’ tally.
Trump’s New York victory offers a much-needed momentum shift for his campaign, which has seen a rough few weeks.

The real estate mogul is looking to rebound from a resounding defeat in Wisconsin, harsh criticism for his controversial abortion comments, and a scandal after his campaign manager was charged with simple battery for grabbing a reporter.
Surrounded by supporters at Trump Tower in Manhattan, the Republican presidential hopeful delivered a triumphant victory speech that emphasized his increasing dominance over Cruz, his nearest challenger. He also placed an emphasis on building up the military and immigration reform. Then he pivoted to small business, and he promised to bring jobs back to the U.S.
“We are going to use our great businesspeople to negotiate unbelievable trade deals so we bring our jobs back, and we don’t let our companies go to all of these other countries anymore,” Trump said.
Like many other Republicans, he also vowed to repeal Obamacare if he is elected, to reduce the regulatory and financial burden on small businesses. Under Trump’s plan, he would eliminate restrictions against buying health insurance across state lines, make health insurance premiums fully tax deductible and allow individuals to open tax-free health savings accounts.
Things are looking good for the front-runner moving forward as he works to avoid a contested convention in July.
The next Republican contests take place in Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and delegate-rich Maryland—and Trump has a comfortable lead in most of these states.
