What first attracted you to NFIB as an employer?

I was working as car salesperson in between jobs (I used to sell TV advertising) and was tired of selling cars. I found an ad for NFIB and liked what I saw. I had no knowledge of politics, but it was everything I had been doing: working with businesses.

What do you like most about working at NFIB?

Working with businesses, the same reason I got in. It's a great opportunity to be out and about on your own. It's working like a business without all the big responsibilities of owning your own business. And it's exciting to know you can help someone out there.

How does NFIB help you realize your personal goals?

We are motivated to help out and work with others, to be independent. NFIB lets me do what I need to do. I don't get interrupted by someone trying to take control over my efforts—I do well working by myself. It's welcomed to meet with the other employees, too, though.

How do the mission and values of NFIB align with your own?

They align with my personal beliefs because they work with businesses, a part of our freedom here in the U.S. I really enjoy the entrepreneurial spirit—being able to go out and do what you want to do without restriction. Striking out to do what's right, and that's important. NFIB is doing what is right.

How do the employee benefits you receive help you reach your personal financial goals?

The benefits are outstanding. Everything NFIB does is to help the individual. We are out here working, and aren't going to get shortchanged in any way. It is right in line with everything I plan financially.

What kind of positive relationship with co-workers and/or members have you created?

My relationships with co-workers have always been good. We get to meet periodically, and we talk over the phone with phone meetings. Those are great opportunities to go over all the issues we have when we're out there by ourselves.

Integrity selling has been very helpful and very easy; I am enjoying it. We're developing a good relationship with our members. Renewals used to be difficult, but life is easier now, it's more comfortable. Now we get the information [to the business owner], then soften it up and let them know we're trying to help them.

To what kind of person would you recommend a career at NFIB?

I have seen all personalities at NFIB. There seems to be some controller and doer types, and I've met talkers. It would be good for self-starters or former business owners—people who know what they have to do and don't need anyone to tell them.

Have you been recognized as a high achiever at NFIB? If so, how does that recognition increase your job satisfaction and personal satisfaction?

My first year I made it to the President's Club, and the following four years I was in the summit category of President's Club. One year, I achieved 350 sales. The recognition, trips, etc. make everything worthwhile—it's icing on the cake. The trips are relaxation and time off that are almost forced on you, because if they weren't, you probably wouldn't take them. Those who are successful in NFIB are workaholics.
