Wisconsin’s 4.6 percent unemployment rate in July remain unchanged from June, but also topped the national average again, which hovered at 5.3 percent.
In July, the state added some 40,000 private sector jobs.
For small business owners in manufacturing, the news is especially welcome: The state’s gain in manufacturing jobs from June to July ranked 5th highest out of 48 states, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
“The federal government’s preliminary numbers reaffirm Wisconsin’s strong economic growth relative to other states,” Department of Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson said. “Unemployment and employment changes are significantly better than the nation’s, and we’re seeing significant increases in total nonfarm, private sector, and manufacturing jobs over the last month and year.”
