WAGE BOARD RECOMMENDATION THREATENS SMALL BUSINESS SURVIVAL IN NEW YORK

Mike Durant, New York State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) responded to the recommendation put forth today by the Wage Board saying it will directly threaten the viability of a significant piece of the small business community and our State’s economy.  In a year when Governor Cuomo is touting the importance of small business to New York, it is imperative that he and the State Department of Labor reject this recommendation and promote policies that will reduce costs broadly for small employers and protect the employment of their employees.  A fifty percent increase to the cash wage for tipped employees will have a chilling effect and further decrease the confidence small employers have in Albany.
