Baltimore Sun and NFIB Finally Agree On Something: Hogan’s Commitment To Small Business Is Unquestionable

ANNAPOLIS
(October 27, 2014): To the disappointment of small business, The Baltimore Sun
released what many perceive as a weak and halfhearted endorsement of Governor
Martin O’Malley’s Lt. Governor, Anthony Brown.  The Sun did however manage
to state, unequivocally, what the National Federation of Independent Business
(NFIB) has been saying all along. According to the Baltimore Sun’s Editorial
board, “Republican Larry Hogan’s commitment to making Maryland more
business friendly is beyond question.”

Tim
Goodrich, Regional Public Policy Director for NFIB said in response to the
Sun’s endorsement, “The Sun, in a last ditch effort to maintain
credibility, is continuing their support of Governor O’Malley’s failed
policies by throwing their endorsement to Brown.  Even though they have unabashedly
supported Governor O’Malley over the past 8 years, they cannot site a single
thing Brown has done for small business to earn their support.”

They
did however acknowledge that Brown “was officially the state’s point-person
on Obamacare implementation” and that the launch of Maryland’s health
insurance exchange website was “disastrous.”

Goodrich
continued: “We recognize that Maryland deserves a Governor that will, for
the first time in at least 8 years, focus on small business.  The Sun spelled out exactly what Maryland
needs in the Executive branch when they stated Hogan’s positions.”
According to the Sun, Hogan will seek to “Look for savings in the state
budget that can be achieved without cutting essential programs, use the
proceeds to support tax cuts in as much as possible, and look for ways to help
businesses navigate the state’s regulatory process.”

Hogan’s
policies are emphatically supported by small business and the National
Federation of Independent Business released its official endorsement of Hogan
earlier this month.
