TWO NFIB SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS WIN SEATS IN PA. LEGISLATURE

Date: November 05, 2014

Pennsylvania’s leading small business association, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today congratulated two southwestern Pennsylvania members who were elected to the state Senate and House. Pat Stefano, owner of Stefano’s Printing in Somerset County, was elected to the 32th state Senate district. Jason Ortitay, owner of Jason’s Cheesecake Company in Allegheny County, was elected to the 46th state House district seat. The two will be sworn in to office when the General Assembly reorganizes in January.
“When you own a small business it’s easy to see how government can create barriers to economic growth, business expansion and job creation,” said Kevin Shivers, executive director of NFIB. “Pat Stefano and Jason Ortitay decided to bring about change by running for office and their victories will bring a refreshing new perspective to the House and Senate.
“Pat runs a third generation family business while remaining very active in his community. He volunteers for the American Heart Association he’s involved in Junior Achievement, the Y and Boy Scouts.  Not only will Pat bring business savvy to the legislature but it’s clear he will also continue to fight for the good of his community.
“Jason, an entrepreneur who started his own business, is a pillar of his community. He started a scholarship fund in honor of his grandfather to help high school students with an interest in business and finance.  He is involved in the Salvation Army and Project Bundle Up. There’s no doubt he will continue to do all he can as a lawmaker for his constituents.
“Knowing how to run a small business takes many talents and much juggling.  It takes negotiation and thinking outside the box. It takes overcoming odds.  These new lawmakers will bring all those skills to the job,” said Shivers.
We look forward to working with Pat and Jason and all the other winners in yesterday’s election,” Shivers added.
