SMALL BUSINESS READY FOR LEGISLATIVE ACTION & LOWER PRICES FOLLOWING TODAY’S NORTHEASTERN ENERGY SUMMIT

HARTFORD (April 23, 2015): The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is hopeful that the release of todays energy plan by Northeastern Governors will result in more than smooth talking points. An energy summit was held today by the Coalition of Northeastern Governors (CONEG) which was followed by a 6 state plan to tackle the energy issues in the region.

“We have always been hopeful that Governor Malloy’s support of improving Connecticut’s natural gas infrastructure will come to fruition and will result in a long term reduction in costs to small businesses. With the release of today’s plan, the faith that the small business community has in the plan was certainly confirmed.” Concluded Markowski. “Now, the time has come for the state legislature and regulators to get out of the way and allow more affordable energy into to Connecticut, in spite of the protests from environmentalists.”

Previously, Governor Malloy had proposed an expansion of natural gas throughout Connecticut where tens of thousands of residents and small businesses will have the opportunity utilize natural gas as an affordable and reliable energy resource. His plans were echoed in the release of today’s plan, which has the support of the region’s Governors.

“Connecticut small business owners have been struggling with an increase in energy prices and a frustrating regulatory environment for years. We applaud the region’s Governors for meeting today in an attempt to solve our infrastructure issues and reduce the financial burden on our area.” Said NFIB Connecticut State Director, Andrew Markowski “It’s time to roll up our sleeves and find the most economically feasible way to ensure that real change to our energy issues will be brought to both the business community and residents of Connecticut.”
