The Only Effect Measure 425 Will Have

Date: October 15, 2014

LINCOLN, Neb., Oct. 15, 2014—“In casting your ballot on Measure 425 raising the state’s minimum-wage rate, please do so with the full knowledge of what it will actually do, instead of what supporters would have you believe it will do.”
So began a guest editorial posted today by Nebraska’s largest and leading small-business association on its website. The 706-word editorial was made available free to any media wishing to run it as content for their publications or websites or as background material for any related stories reporter might be working on.
“We wanted to get the message out far and wide about the only effect passage of Measure 425 would have, and that is massive teenage job loss,” said Bob Hallstrom, Nebraska state director for the National Federation of Independent Business, America’s voice of small business. “In the name of balance, I would encourage any media that have not provided their readers, listeners, and viewers with an accurate counterpoint to make use of our editorial on the most misunderstood issue in politics.”
Editors and reporters can find the guest editorial by clicking here, or by going to the NFIB/Nebraska web page.
On a related note, NFIB also announced today the results from a fax poll of its members that found 80 percent of them opposed to Measure 425, only 20 percent in favor.
America’s largest small-business association, the National Federation of Independent Business has almost 350,000 dues-paying members across the nation, including 5,000 in Nebraska. “Small businesses significantly impact Nebraska’s economy,” reports the Office of Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration. “They represent 96.6 percent of all employers and employ 50.9 percent of the private-sector labor force. Small businesses are crucial to the fiscal condition of the state and numbered 164,465 in 2010 … Most of Nebraska’s small businesses … have fewer than 20 employees.”
