Support Improved Natural Gas Infrastructure

Date: September 17, 2014

With the cost of energy becoming an increasingly critical
issue for Rhode Island’s small businesses dependent on energy to function, NFIB
joined with other RI Business Coalition members to support efforts to expand
the supply of natural gas to the area.

Increasing the availability and access to clean, affordable
natural gas is critical to keeping our state’s businesses competitive with
regionally and globally. Small businesses need predictability in the costs of
doing business, particularly with regard to energy costs. We must build the
infrastructure to allow access to reliable, abundant and affordable natural gas
to expand new and existing businesses and increase job opportunities
locally.

The support was announced prior to a hearing relative to the
building of a new compressor station in Burrillville as part of Spectra
Energy’s existing Algonquin Gas Transmission system. The compressor would be
built on 800 acres owned by Spectra and located nearly one half mile from the
nearest existing structure.
