Stop the Sales Tax on Services!

Date: February 18, 2015

Senate Bill 8 (Hertzberg) will create – for the first time in California history – a new sales tax on service industry businesses, such as:

• Auto Repair Shops
• Contractors
• Restaurants
• Accounting Services
• Architects, Engineers, Designers
• Pest Control Operators
• Yoga Studios
• And virtually all other small businesses providing services of any kind!

The only sectors exempted from this bill are education and healthcare. This bill will place new legal burdens on small business owners – as well as increasing costs for small businesses that hire accountants, legal services, janitors, and others – and will only increase prices in a time of economic uncertainty. It could cost businesses thousands annually.

Politicians claim this new tax on services will raise $10 billion to help fund our schools. We have heard this before – that is the same promise they made about Proposition 30, a Sales and Income Tax Increase Initiative on the November 6, 2012 ballot, which did nothing to help our schools.
