Brad Jones, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, today urged Gov. Jay Nixon to sign legislation making Missouri the nation’s 26th right-to-work state.
“Six of the eight states touching Missouri already have right-to-work laws. If we’re serious about staying competitive and attracting and keeping jobs, we’ll become a right-to-work state, too.
“Some people say right-to-work is anti-union, but that’s not true. If you want to join a union, great, but you shouldn’t have to join a union in order to get a job and support your family. By the same token, right-to-work means you can’t be fired for joining a union.
“Right-to-work means exactly what it says: You have a right to work.
“Right-to-work is one of the most important economic reforms to land on the governor’s desk in years. It would immediately make us more competitive regionally and nationally, and that would create more opportunities for Main Street businesses.
“That’s why Missouri’s small, family businesses are asking Governor Nixon to set partisan politics aside and sign right-to-work into law.”
