SMALL BUSINESS RESPONSE TO GOVERNORS BUDGET REMARKS

The National Federation of Independent Business
(NFIB) is responding to Governor Malloy’s budget comments earlier today.

“Small business couldn’t agree more that Connecticut must adhere to the
constitutional spending cap to avoid our state budget and economic situation
from becoming even more debilitated. by increasing spending without bringing in
additional revenue.” Said NFIB Connecticut State Director Andrew
Markowski. “The cap was implemented concurrent with the income tax when
state lawmakers and voters had the foresight to acknowledge that we would be
facing future spending problems.  It is vital to our economic growth to
honor that commitment by staying within the cap and not increasing spending
further or bringing in new or additional revenue.  Lawmakers must focus on
making state government leaner and more efficient without abandoning core
government functions or forcing small business owners and taxpayers to bare the
burden of our elected officials’ past budgeting mistakes.”
