For Over a Decade Invites Community to Small Business Showcase

GLENBURNIE
(October 9, 2015): Small businesses in the greater Baltimore area are teaming
up to highlight the enormous potential for success that’s possible when
entrepreneurs team together to create special events. Today the National
Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is applauding the team work and
celebrating the recent expansion of Party Plus
Tents + Events in Glen Burnie. Next
week, they will be holding an open house in their new facilities and they’ve
invited many local small business owners to join them.

“More so than
ever, it is incredibly important that small business owners support one another
and we are excited to collaborate with our partners and give them an
opportunity to showcase their talents as well as provide the public an
opportunity to see firsthand the options they have available for special events
in Maryland,” according to Party Plus General
Manager, Lauri Dixon. “We’ve recently expanded our line of services and
with that has come an increased opportunity to work with the allies in our
community. Pooling resources together is vital to the small business community
and we have had success in doing just that.”

Party Plus Tents + Events, who joined the National
Federation of Independent Business in 1995, employs dozens of people, depending
on the time of the year. According to Mrs. Dixon, their decision to recently
expand was a risk that they ultimately decided to take in spite of the
uncertain economic climate and looming regulations that could harm their small
business. Additionally, working with other small business owners in the area
has been instrumental in their transition to expand services to their customers.

“It’s
unfortunate but our members are constantly battling with regulations and
mandates that ultimately are the leading cause in deciding whether or not to
expand their businesses,” according to NFIB Maryland state director, Mike
O’Halloran. “More often than not, the hiring of additional people becomes
collateral thanks to the cost of doing business in our state. As Party Plus
continues with their expansion, more people in the area will have employment
opportunities. They are a tremendous asset to our community.”

Dixon
continued, “Knowing that minimum wage increases may ultimately dictate our
ability to hire more people, expanding was a daunting thought, but in the end
we realized if we had the opportunity to provide more jobs for our community,
it was incumbent upon us to do so. Thankfully, we have not seen some of the
exorbitant increases that other states have, but any further changes in minimum
wage will no doubt prohibit us for employing more people.”

For next week’s
open house, Party Plus has teamed up with many other local employers including
5 of the top caters in the area. Various
menu items will be available for tasting from The Classic
Catering People, Eleven Courses, The Pantry Catering, Zeffert and Gold and Two
Rivers Fish and Steak. The Wine Bin will be pouring beer and wine for all attendees.  “Our goal is to celebrate small business
and educate the public on what we all have to offer. From a photo booth to a
DJ, guests will certainly be entertained while they sample the various foods
and beverages and experience all we have to offer to create great events thanks
to many small businesses working side by side to ensure everyone’s success,”
concluded Dixon.
