SMALL BUSINESS GRATEFUL FOR LEGISLATIVE COMMON SENSE

ANNAPOLIS (March 31, 2015): Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is applauding Maryland’s House Economic Matters Committee  members for their efforts in ensuring that Maryland small businesses are supported through legislative action by elected officials. Yesterday, bills receiving unfavorable reports from the committee included a strict scheduling mandate as well as a mandatory pay bill.
“Strict scheduling would have required small business owners to anticipate their staffing needs weeks in advance. It would have had an especially destructive impact on those in industries like restaurants and construction that staff as projects are picked up and events are planned. The thousands of NFIB members that we have in Maryland are sincerely appreciative of the committee members actions and their efforts to advocate for small business.” Said Maryland NFIB State Director, Jessica Cooper “Mandating pay for all employees also received an unfavorable report from law makers due to the acknowledgment that an existing legal framework was effecient to ensure that equal work always supports equal pay for Maryland workers.
With less than two weeks left in the 2015 legislative session, small business in Maryland appreciates members of both parties keeping small business in mind as they consider legislation.
