Small Business Encourages Marylanders Not to Bypass Midterms
ANNAPOLIS (November 3, 2014): The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today implored voters in Maryland to get out and vote tomorrow. Noting the narrow margins in many polls across the state, small business believes if pro-small business voters stay home it could swing the election in a direction that will be detrimental to the state’s economy.
“It has been a long and arduous election season here in Maryland and we are hoping that small business will be victorious tomorrow,” said NFIB/Maryland State Director Jessica Cooper. “There are many candidates throughout the state that have vowed to fight Maryland’s over burdensome tax and regulatory structure and we hope to see them succeed tomorrow night. However, regardless of who wins, our focus will be on improving Maryland’s economy and making our state’s small business environment one where entrepreneurs cannot just survive, but flourish.”
The State Business Tax Index recently released by the Tax Foundation referred to Maryland as one of the “states where the tax base is found to cause an unnecessary drag on economic activity,” something small business owners have been saying for years.
“Our hope for Election Day is that voters will go to the polls thinking of the economic impact that pro-business candidates can have on Maryland’s growth and fiscal success.” Continued Cooper “It’s vital that Marylanders realize the importance of their vote and not dismiss the mid-term election as inconsequential. The stakes for Maryland have never been higher.”
