Small Business Can't Afford EPA's Proposed Changes to Clean Water Act

Date: October 23, 2014

Dan Murray, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, joined Gov. Sam Brownback at a news conference today to discuss proposed changes to the federal Clean Water Act. Murray released the following statement after the news conference:
“This attempt by the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers represents an unprecedented—and unacceptable—land grab by the federal government that spells trouble for small-business owners and other landowners. If the federal government is allowed to claim jurisdiction over every pond, ditch, and puddle, it will be impossible, or, at least, incredibly expensive, for people to use their own land. You won’t be able to dig or excavate or even lay gravel without the federal government getting involved.
“NFIB supports Governor Brownback in his opposition to these proposed changes, and we encourage not only every small-business owner but also every homeowner, farmer and landowner to tell the EPA to leave our property alone.”
NFIB/Kansas is the state’s leading small-business association, with 4,000 dues-paying members representing a cross section of the state’s economy.
