Small Business Backs Tisei in Hot North Shore Congressional Race

NFIB cites candidate’s strong voting record and business experience

Washington, DC (September 23, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today announced its support for former state lawmaker Richard Tisei in his bid for the seat previously held by incumbent John Tierney in the competitive 6th District congressional race.

“Richard Tisei was an extremely reliable supporter of small business when he served in the State Senate and his positions on the important federal issues are perfectly in tune with our members,” said NFIB State Director Bill Vernon. “He’s a small business owner and that’s the kind of experience that is greatly needed in Washington.”

As a state legislator, Tiesi earned a lifetime 92 percent NFIB Voting Record. In a progressive state in which small businesses owners are often on the losing end of public policy, Tisei’s consistent support is impressive.

“He’s a courageous leader and our members respect him,” said NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas. “This is a very important race and a chance to ensure that small business owners on the North Shore are represented on the key issues.”

Tisei is running against Seth Moulton, who upset longtime incumbent Congressman John Tierney in the Democratic Primary. Despite that, there isn’t much difference between the newcomer and Tierney, whose lifetime NFIB Voting Record was a disappointing 19 percent.

“He’ll be a dependable vote for the trial lawyers and the bureaucracy over the interests of small business owners in Massachusetts,” said Vernon. “Small business owners in this district have a chance to elect a real advocate this year and they’re very excited by Richard Tisei’s candidacy.”

Tisei’s endorsement comes from the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political action committee. Small business owners are influential in their communities and NFIB members in the 6th District this year will work hard to send Richard Tisei to Congress.
