Backs Foley for Governor on Eve of Debate

NFIB: There’s only
one choice this year for Connecticut small businesses

Hartford (October 2, 2014)
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)
today endorsed businessman Tom Foley for Governor as the candidates
prepare for their second major televised debate this evening.

“Connecticut’s
economy has continued to lag the nation and that’s largely due to Governor
Malloy’s policies,” said NFIB Regional State Public Policy Director Tim
Goodrich
.  “His term has been marked by massively higher taxes, fiscal
instability and a general economic malaise that has been very hard on small
businesses.  It is definitely time for a change.”

Foley
squares off in the third debate tonight with Malloy, against whom he lost four
years ago by a few thousand votes.  According to Goodrich, it’s easy to
imagine that Connecticut’s economy would be much stronger now had the decision
gone the other way.

“Connecticut
voters have another clear choice between a candidate with decades of experience
in the private sector and a Governor whose answer to everything is more
government,” he said.  “We have to get this right.”

Foley has
run on a platform of cutting taxes, accelerating permits and taming
Connecticut’s regulatory bureaucracy.  Among other measures, Foley has
specifically pledged to eliminate Connecticut’s Business Entity Tax, a nuisance
tax on small business owners.

“His
positions on the issues are clearly informed by his practical business
experience and that’s exactly what Hartford needs,” said Goodrich.  “Our
members have been calling for someone with Tom Foley’s business experience to
help govern this state.  Small business owners want a leader who can
relate to the everyday problems they face in running their businesses.”

The small
business sector is critical to Connecticut’s economy, said Foley, who thanked
the state’s leading small business advocacy group for its endorsement.

“I
am proud to receive the endorsement of the NFIB and small businesses across the
state of Connecticut,” said Foley.  “Small businesses are the drivers of
the economy in Connecticut.  I am glad that they support our message of a
fairer regulatory climate and lower taxes.  Together we will get
Connecticut headed in a new direction.”

Foley’s
endorsement comes from NFIB’s SAFE-Trust Committee, the organization’s political
action committee.  Small business owners are influential in their
communities and NFIB members will work hard this year to elect Tom Foley
Governor of Connecticut.
