Small Business Backs Emmer in 6th Congressional District Race
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) cites candidate’s strong record on small business issues and his positions on the key federal issues
St. Paul (October 20, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) today announced its support for state Rep. Tom Emmer in the 6th Congressional District race.
“Tom has a distinguished record in the Minnesota House and he’s been one of our most reliable allies in the Legislature,” said NFIB/Minnesota State Director Mike Hickey.  “Our members know him very well.  He’s been attentive to their concerns.  And they know he’ll be a strong advocate in Washington.”
Emmer is running against Sartell Mayor Joe Perske.  He doesn’t have a voting record to analyze but his positions on the issues are disappointing to Minnesota small business owners.
“Mayor Perske didn’t return our candidate questionnaire and he hasn’t met with us, so we don’t know much about his positions except for his public comments and campaign positions,” said NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas.  “Based on what we know, like his enthusiastic support for Obamacare, our members don’t believe that he would represent their interests very well.”
NFIB members opposed the health care law from the beginning and they fought its implementation all the way to the US Supreme Court.
“The health care law is perhaps the most damaging piece of legislation of the 21st Century,” said Mike Hickey.  “It has trigged higher taxes and higher health care premiums, and it puts health insurance out of reach for many small businesses and their employees.”
Emmer’s endorsement was made by the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political action committee.  Surveys show that small business owners are influential in their communities and NFIB members in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District will work hard this year to send Tom Emmer to Washington.
