Small Business Applauds Passage of Tax Holiday in Committee

Tallahassee, FL, March 23, 2015 – The National Federation of Independent Business/Florida today applauded the passage of the Small Business Sales Tax Holiday, Senate Bill 384 sponsored by Sen. Rene Garcia, through the Senate Finance and Tax Committee.

“The passage of the small business sales tax holiday through the Senate Finance and Tax Committee demonstrates how committed the Florida Senate is to small business,” said NFIB/Florida Executive Director Bill Herrle. “This sales tax holiday is an exciting way to encourage consumers to shop local and keep their shopping dollars in our communities.”

Held each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country.

“We thank Senator Garcia for his work to help small business and look forward to working with the Legislature to continue to fine-tune this bill and bring a boost to our state’s Main Streets,” Herrle said.

Senate Bill 384 calls for a one-day sales tax holiday on that day, where sales tax will not be collected on items purchased at small businesses. It defines a small business as having less than $3.3 million in taxable sales. Rep. Jay Fant is the House sponsor of the companion bill, House Bill 259.
