SMALL BUSINESS APPLAUDS CHRISTIES REFUSAL TO EXCEPT INCOME TAX INCREASE

TRENTON (January 13, 2015) Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) was pleased to hear that Governor Chris Christie, in his 2015 state of the state remarks, will emphatically and unapologetically veto any legislative proposal to increase taxes in New Jersey.

“The Governor highlighted what our members have been saying for years, that increasing taxes and making it more difficult and expensive to do business in New Jersey will only result in businesses leaving our state.” Said NFIB New Jersey State Director Laurie Ehlbeck. “I hope that the legislature will take the Governors words to heart and come together to cut taxes and make growing a small business in New Jersey a more prosperous venture.”

During today’s state of the state, the Governor remarked that things are looking good for small business in 2015. He highlighted New Jersey’s falling unemployment rate and the success of the 2% cap enacted during his first term. According to the Governor, in the past five years, much needed tax relief has been delivered to small businesses.

“The Governor said it best, the higher the taxes are for proprietors, not only will fewer people and businesses come to New Jersey, but more will consider leaving. Unfortunately, the democratically controlled legislature here in New Jersey insists on constantly attempting to bombard small businesses with increased taxes and burdensome regulations.” Continued Ehlbeck, “Governor Christie understands that and has successfully used his veto pen to watch over our small business owners. Today, he continued that trend by encouraging the legislature to come up with creative, common sense reforms.”
