Shale Industry Spurring Voto Growth

Date: April 15, 2015

Founded in 1938 by Harry Vogelsong, the Voto Manufacturers
Sales Company sells top quality products to a variety of industries including
the steel, construction, mining, and industrial markets.

Voto originally started out selling their products to the
steel and coal industries and now for the past 75 years they have diversified
to sell their products to the Utica, shale workers.  The increased mining and drilling operations
have helped to stimulate the economy in Eastern Ohio.

The current owner, Janie Mayle, has worked for the company
for 37 years, starting when she was just 12 years old.  Voto is truly a family run business with
Janie employing her 3 sons, father, and 2 brother-in-laws.

Janie inherited the NFIB membership when she took over the
business, but has stayed a member because NFIB gives a voice to small
businesses. “Being little Voto Manufacturing, we don’t have a lobbyist being
our voice, but with an organization like yours we have one now,”  she said.

Janie’s advice to anyone looking to start a business of
their own is to “take a look at regulations, taxes, and healthcare costs before
you invest your money.”

She and Nora Boyles from Voto have been active participants
in the Steubenville Area Action Council where they have had the opportunity to
meet a number of elected officials and even have some of them tour their
business.
